|Silence Day at Meherbad|
Meher Baba's Jhopdi, a small whitewashed building at lower Meherabad, is the "hut" or room where Baba was staying in seclusion in July, 1925, when He informed the Mandali He would begin keeping silence. As Padri said so pithily in a video-taped interview many of us have seen: "He went in on the night of the 9th talking, and came out the morning of the 10th silent." Thus the Jhopdi is the place where Baba began His Silence which continued, as we know, for nearly 44 years. That small room is maintained where it stands next to Baba's Table House and is open for pilgrims on Silence Day, the 10th of July. Throughout the day Baba pilgrims come to pay homage, to sit quietly either inside or in the nearby vicinity, sharing His Silence on that special day.
